Connecticut fans of "CSI" may be familiar with Gary Dourdan, one of the actors on the television show. He is making headlines for a different reason this time and is reportedly seeking a consumer bankruptcy. Documents in the case show the actor has about $1.8 million in assets, but owes $1.73 million. A major part of his debt is owed to banks.
His issues began to surface about two years ago when he was named in a lawsuit over credit card debt. In August of this year, he sought consumer bankruptcy protection to save his home from being placed on the auction block. The actor is well-known for his eight years spent on the drama 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.'
He claims he has relatively little disposable income, just over $300 per month. The actor is reported to be making almost $15,000 per month. Unfortunately, the majority of that money goes directly to pay his bills. He stated that he will likely receive additional acting jobs in the future which he believes will help him pay off his debt.
A consumer bankruptcy can happen to anyone, no matter the level of their wealth. For Dourdan's situation, the majority of his funds go directly to his debts, leaving him relatively little leftover money to survive on. Connecticut residents in a similar situation may consider the option of bankruptcy. Doing so can help someone struggling financially to get back on their feet and take control of their finances. When debt becomes overwhelming, it can affect all aspects of someone's life, so gaining a hold it and being able to start over is one of the best reasons to consider a consumer bankruptcy.
